Last year you performed 21 night in a row in London and played your complete back catalog another album every night. When will you release these concerts in a box?
A soon as all the legal aspects are solved, as the albums been released on different labels, we hope to release a dvd box containing all the 21 concerts. But as you know lawyers work slowly. |

Is this an official response you received from Sparks' management? Somewhat encouraging, I suppose. I don't understand all this legal stuff -- wouldn't the Maels ultimately have the authority to do whatever they want with their own songs? _________________ "Gratitude for having thought of me. Depends who owns the copyright to the songs.
These are commodities that can be bought and sold just like oil or mineral rights.
There are a number of possible "original" owners, songwriter, record label, publisher, manager.
E.g. The Beatles songs were mostly written by Lennon/McCartney, early on were managed by Brian Epstein, recorded for Parlophone/EMI (I think) and songs published by Northern Songs, which I believe was a company owned by Epstein.
Anyway, for reasons that escape me, Michael Jackson ended up owning a lot of Beatles songs which Macca spent a lot of brass on buying back, which he could easily afford.
Who knows who owns the copyright to all/any of Sparks songs, could be a large number of people and I don't think R&R have Macca's resources to regularise the situation.
Hence the lawyers. |

Is there any further word on the 21x21 dvd box set? We are anxiously awaiting its release. |

2 concerts on each ands some bonus material on a few. _________________ None |

On this forum a while back there were computer recordings of most of the 21x21 nights; the thread seems to have vanished now, does anyone know where I could obtain the Plagiarism night? Wish I'd downloaded them all now as the few I did download I enjoyed. _________________ 21Mar09 • 28Oct09 • 13Jun12 • 22Oct12 • 1Dec13 • 19Dec14 • 26Aug15 • 19Sep17 • 20Sep17 |
