Russell is performing this Friday (September 21st) at the MITO SETTEMBRE MUSICA FESTIVAL

'It was 40 years ago today...' 2007 marks four decades since The Beatles' era-defining album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band first turned the pop/rock world on its axis. Now, in this anniversary year, the London Sinfonietta recreates this 1960s classic with a stellar cast of performers.

In addition to Russell Mael, the line-up includes Jarvis Cocker, Marianne Faithful, Beth Orton, The Residents, Robyn Hitchcock, Peter Murphy, Badly Drawn Boy and Alex Chilton.

The amazing Baby Lemonade is the rock band.
Jurjen Hempel conducts.

I wish i could be there. is this just a one off?

So what do Italians have with Sgt. Pepper? Sounds like a fun thing for RFH!

Cheapest flights this late are over 220 euro

I spend 2 weeks in New York right now, and at the same time Russell performs in Europe - bad luck.

Hey Mr D couldn't you have posted this JUST A DAY OR TWO SOONER even, then I could have made it. Oh well.

Good luck to Russell anyway.

I always thought the "we shall fly off over rainbows..." -part in Sparks' "Underground" sounded like the "we shall scrimp and save..." on "When I'm 64". Still, I think overall "Being for the benefit of Mr. Kite" is the Sparkiest track on "Pepper", and also the verses of "Lucy in the sky" are of similar spirit as the more surreal stuff on the Bearsville albums

Would've loved to hear Russell sing "Mr Kite" (damn, you can't edit your posts on this forum, that's why I had to write this separate...)

Found this earlier - All You Need Is Love from Milan - Russell sings one verse, and makes a far better job of it than Jarvis Cocker!!

It's me shouting in that youtube video.
I have met Russell after the show, and talked with him, get my "kimono my house" signed. It was his fist in Italy- He promised me he will be back in Italy in Sparks new your. I hope it will happen. I love them since 1974. Here a pic with him
