I haven't included shows I only saw online - I wouldn't know how to compare them with the ones I actually attended.
Exotic Creatures of the Deep
Plagiarism
Gratuitous Sax & Senseless Violins
Whomp That Sucker
Propaganda
Indiscreet
Kimono My House
Balls
Interior Design
My head (or rather, my ears) is telling me that Plagiarism was the best, but my heart is winning out - I was too emotionally invested in the final show to be entirely objective. _________________ Leon |

obviously it'll be different for everyone but what's wrong with asking for reasons? |
ECOTD is only last on my list because of the poor sound where I was. Honestly, if you knew how much it's upset me that I didn't enjoy it. But I'm happy it didn't seem to be a problem form people in other spots. Of the 13 Islington concerts I went to most gave me so much happiness, more than I ever expected. I adore the ECOTD album, and the performance was amazing, and I've seen the band play enough over the last month to know how excellently they were playing - the effort they were putting into the breaks and shifts in Change at ECOTD encore, for example, a hard song to play live, as Steve Nistor said on his blog, and yet the contrast between the distorting dirge of it at ECOTD compared to at the Islington MTYCDT concert was huge (again, not necessarily from all spots in the crowd, but definitely mine). The list is meant to be what you enjoyed the most, so that's why it's last. I tried really hard to enjoy it, but for whatever reason, the sound was truly terrible for me and I heard others nearby saying the same, and they weren't being fussy. They were upset. I've attended or worked at many concerts over many years at London venues since 1987, I've been to the SB Empire a stack of times, and nothing sounded as bad as that. So that's why it's last on my list, I'm not blaming anyone, certainly not Sparks, I love them more than ever, I'm just so sad I wasn't able to enjoy the climax to this wonderfaul 21 x 21, and the glorious premiere of such a great, great album. _________________ Even

oh no, that's really sad.. it was bassy as hell where i was, but i was on another planet by that point - they could've come on, played white noise with their backs to the audience and left and i would still have been in floods of tears. it's a shame so many of the shows have been dogged by bad sound, it's been the main complaint. i really hope the whole of ecotd was filmed professionally - there were a few cameras around the venue so fingers crossed. _________________ medic! medic! medic! medic! |

incredible (in no order):
exotic creatures (almost unclassifiable because emotions were running so high, it was in a totally different league to the islington series)
whomp (personal favourite out of all the gigs)
plagiarism
pulling rabbits
terminal jive
indiscreet
woofer
halfnelson (there was something so special about the first two concerts - i think because it was The Start, and everyone was thrilled - i don't think the band were expecting the singalong from Wonder Girl onwards. special special special.)
unbelievably good (no order):
angst
outer space
propaganda
no1
kimono
hyl
lil beethoven
great (no order):
grat sax
introducing
interior design
good, but were never going to do it for me:
big beat
music that you can dance to (like the album but it didn't work live for me..)

Maybe I should have moved further back instead of moving along the front. The person who gave that wonderful shirt Russell wore said on the review thread that you make your choice where to stand, but I've stood there pretty recently at the SB Empire (for John Cale and others) and had no trouble. Anyway, it's been a fantatsic month overall, I can't believe what they've achieved with 21 x 21, and with such style and quality of performance, and they're still at it, in Estonia, Lithuania and where are they tomorrow? I hope they have a great enjoyable rest, and roll on the ECOTD DVD and the other shows in some form or another! _________________ Even
