TODAY THE BBC BANNED DICK AROUND.
DESPITE THE FACT THAT RON AND RUSSELL WERE INVITED INTO THE STUDIO AS GUESTS OF THE BREAKFAST SHOW ON BBC LONDON 94.9PM, THE HOST JONO COLEMAN WAS BANNED FROM PLAYING THE SINGLE DICK AROUND
JONO AND HIS CO-HOST JO GOOD WERE OBVIOUSLY EMBARRASSED - PARTICULARLY AS THEY QUITE CLEARLY KNEW THAT THE TERM MEANS WASTING TIME.
RON AND RUSSELL WERE QUITE CLEARLY ALSO EMBARRASSED BUT ALSO APPEARED TO BE INSULTED THAT THEY HAD BEEN ASKED TO 'GET UP AT 6.15AM TO COME AND BE INTERVIEWED AND THEN NOT HAVE THEIR SINGLE PLAYED' AND WHAT SHOULD (AND COULD) HAVE BEEN AN INTERESTING INTERVIEW ENDED UP BEING A 15 MINUTE DISCUSSION ABOUT THE BBC BANNING THE SONG

'well, I'll go to the foot of our stairs!....It's an outrage this day and age...
.....All I can say is use it to your advantage and spread the news far and wide...Look what happened to Frankie's 'Relax'....
I'm stunned! _________________ ....It's the calm before the storm...... |

Print up a link that we can post our complaints to please!!!!
I mean it's unbelievable...the BBC are forever extollong the virtues of "singers"...whose songs and lyrics are racist, mysoginistic to the nth degree and homophobic...constantly there are songs boasting of killing and raping....but no-one listens to THOSE lyrics!!!..How 2-faced can they be???? |

Thanks for the link.
The musical composition of this song alone is so superior to anything on our airwaves it is a true tragedy to have it banned.
The lyrics to me are sad, but powerful. It's an operatic tale of a lover so hurt that his "love life" will be casual as opposed to meaningful from now on.
I suppose the television and other radio stations will start banning all operas, rap songs, soaps, a good many movies, etc. following this.
Shocking! |

Just made Dick Around single of the day on Playlouder and my site Music Towers.
Music Towers will happily throw our weight behind this single, or any campaign to have it playlisted. Disgusted that they have done this, this is the best UK release since Bohemian Rapsody.
The BBC should be banning playlists.
Hmm

I copied n' pasted the press release to an email to pitchfork (pitchforkmedia.com). Hopefully they'll do a write-up. Or, at least, copy n' paste my copy n' paste. |

Subject: Banned music
As a licence payer, I expect to be told which demagogue made the decision to disallow Jono from playing the new Sparks' single "Dick Around" this morning. I also expect this decision to be reversed in the very near future. I can only assume it is because the total banality of most of the "music" you do air, has dumbed you down to the level that you have plunged your audiences into.
Can you no longer differentiate between what is and is not, offensive? I hope for a total reshuffle of the decision makers at all levels of the BBC very soon.
Be prepared for a considerable backlash.
People running music stations should at least have a basic understanding of the concept.
Meanwhile, keep on playing the dross that appears on the playlists every week. It seems like all the Radio producers take to real music, like a duck takes to Merchant Banking.
I am disgusted.

I´ve sent an email to yourlondon@bbc.co.uk and told them my opinion that it´s redicoulus to ban "Dick Around" and that Sparks are vey important in the music today and that they have inspired so many artists for 30+years.
They have been important musically, lyrically and they have such creativity.
I also wrote that I think bbc shall promote musicacts that challenge todays typical chartsongs and them who drive music forward(Sparks).
That Sparks more than any other musicacts today deserve to be played and that if they ban it they will have to ban more artists of today for ex. Eminem.
I also said that people deserve to discover and rediscover Sparks and hear how great they are.
I wonder where´s free speach and hoped bbc will change their mind.
Well we´ll see about that. |

Does this mean we no longer have to throw a hissy fit??
Was it all a big misunderstanding then? Or have the BBC swiftly reversed their decision and are just trying to cover it up? Can anyone shed any light? |

I suggest we all keep up the hissy fits. They may have decided it's not banned, but I don't seem to hear them playing it..... |
